PLOT: THE CORE OF A NARRATIVE ESSAY

Today, we are going to learn about PLOT in a narrative essay. A narrative essay is a piece of writing that recreates an experience through time. It can be based on one of your own experiences, either past or present, or it can be based on the experiences of someone else. When you write a narrative essay, you must also consider literary devices such as language, symbol, theme, moral values, settings and others. But which aspect of the devices matters most to you? PLOT!! That is the aspect that will give you your story's structure.
Plot is the literary element that describes the structure of a story. It shows arrangement of events and actions within a story.Writers vary structure depending on the needs of the story. For example, in a mystery, the author will withhold plot exposition until later in the story. PLOT can be divided into 5 level of development. There are exposition, rising action, climax, falling action & resolution.
Exposition: the start of the story, the situation before the action starts

Rising Action: the series of conflicts and crisis in the story that lead to the climax

Climax: the turning point, the most intense moment—either mentally or in action

Falling Action: all of the action which follows the climax

Resolution: the conclusion, the tying together of all of the threads
